Privacy
Your climbing life stays yours.
This policy explains what Puka processes, why it is needed, and the choices available to you. It applies to the Puka iOS and Android apps and web services.
Effective date: October 3, 2026
Information you provide
Puka processes account details such as your name, email address, user identifier, username, profile photo, biography, home gym, and climbing preferences when you choose to provide them.
Your climbing content can include sessions, routes, grades, attempts, notes, photos, videos, hold maps, movement analysis, posts, comments, reactions, saved items, crew plans, and messages. You control whether eligible community content is private or shared.
Photos, videos, camera, and location
Puka accesses the camera or photo library only after you choose an action and grant the relevant system permission. Media you select can be copied into Puka, processed on your device, or uploaded when you request a cloud feature, publish a post, or share with a crew.
Microphone access is optional and used to include sound when you record a video. You can record without sound. On-device movement analysis, body segmentation, Smart Scan, and comparisons do not upload your original videos for analysis. Publishing a video uploads the media you explicitly choose to share.
When available, Puka may read the original date and coarse location attached to selected media to suggest a gym. You confirm the gym before it is attached to a session. Puka does not use this feature for continuous or live location tracking.
Android notifications, maps, and analysis services
Accounts, authentication, shared content, and eligible cloud sync use Supabase. Android push notifications use Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. Puka associates a notification registration token and installation identifier with your signed-in account to deliver the notifications you enable. Firebase also processes installation identifiers, application and SDK information needed to operate its service.
Android on-device analysis uses Google ML Kit. Google may receive SDK usage, performance, device information, and diagnostic identifiers according to its SDK data practices; the images and video frames analysed by ML Kit stay on your device. Puka does not include Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics in the Android app.
Gym maps use Google Maps on Android. Map services may process device and network information when you open a map. Puka does not request background location permission. Selecting a gym or meeting point is separate from granting access to your device location.
How Puka uses information
- Provide accounts, cloud sync, climbing logs, community features, and notifications.
- Generate the hold maps, movement replays, comparisons, and coaching analysis that you request.
- Maintain safety, prevent abuse, investigate reports, and protect the service.
- Diagnose reliability problems and improve product performance.
Sharing and service providers
Puka shares information with other users only according to the audience and collaboration choices you make. Content posted publicly or to a community can be viewed and reshared by people in that audience.
Puka uses service providers for authentication, database and file storage, notifications, hosting, and requested AI analysis. They may process only the information needed to provide those services under their applicable agreements. Puka does not sell personal information and does not use third-party advertising trackers.
Retention and deletion
Puka keeps account and content data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Some records may be retained for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, dispute resolution, and backups for a limited period.
You can request account deletion from the account settings in Puka. Deletion removes the account and associated personal content from active systems, subject to the limited retention described above. Content involving other people may leave non-identifying records needed to preserve their activity or conversations.
If you cannot access the app, use the Puka account deletion request page. Your own local climbing log and video copies can remain on a device after cloud account deletion; the app offers a separate choice to remove these local copies.
Your choices
You can change iOS or Android permissions in device Settings, edit profile and sharing choices in Puka, export or remove individual content where offered, block other users, and delete your account. Removing a Puka copy does not remove an original that remains in your device photo library.
Children and international use
Puka is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires a higher minimum age or parental consent, that local requirement applies. Information may be processed in Canada, the United States, or other locations where Puka's service providers operate.
Updates and contact
Puka may update this policy as the product changes. Material updates will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, an in-app notice.
Questions or privacy requests can be sent through the Puka support page.
